GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general direction of the Multi-Site Coordinator/Child Care Director, the Assistant works for the YMCA of Greater Rochester and is responsible for on-site activity leadership, working directly with children. Staff members must be qualified by training and experience to carry out their respective functions in the administration, operation and maintenance of the school-age child care program. Greets everyone by name whenever possible; extend thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed. QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school degree. The candidate should have limited experience working with children under 13 years of age, preferably in an organized setting. The candidate must bring to this position maturity, responsibility, and a sincere interest in working with people. The candidate should have very strong interpersonal and organization skills. The candidate must possess a general knowledge and understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission. Possess limited knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in assisting daily activities. Possess limited knowledge of age appropriate activities and expectations of children ages 5-12. CERTIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS: Maintain current medical and tuberculosis health form. (Expires every two years) Obtain New Staff Orientation within 30 days of hire. Obtain 15 hours of training within the first 6 months of hire (may be prorated with supervisor's approval). Obtain a minimum of 30 hours of training every two years. (30 hour minimum requirement for each license period for the site, but may be prorated with supervisor's approval) Candidate will be required to be fingerprinted and have background checks conducted by the YMCA and the State. Maintain updated certifications of the job (CPR and First Aid (AED), Medication Administration Training, Supervision Trainings, Food and Safety Trainings, CATCH, and any other as directed by your supervisor. The candidate must successfully complete the YMCA's Listen First Learn and Implement Cycle within 6 months of hire. Must sign and demonstrate the YMCA Greater Rochester's Staff Pledge. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES: The member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be the number one priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of health seekers, members, and all people within the YMCA in a courteous and friendly manner.
