School Age Child Care Instructor Specialist

Salary Range: $10.20 - $10.39
Under the general direction of the Child Care and Program Director (summer months), the Instructor Specialist works for the YMCA of Greater Rochester and is responsible for supervision, planning, implementing, and organizing the daily School Age Child Care Program. Major emphasis is on program excellence and developing quality care of the highest standard. The candidate is also responsible for the development of enrichment programs working along with the School Age, Preschool, and Camp Directors/Multi-Site Coordinators (kids club, fun club, staff recognition, curriculum, and sports enhancements). The candidate will supervise any staff and volunteers that are assigned to them, maintain a safe environment for all participants, and communicate with parents/guardians regularly. Staff members must be qualified by training and experience to carry out their respective functions in the administration, operation and maintenance of the school-age child care program
The candidate should be at least 18 years of age and possess a bachelor's degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field and 5 years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least 4 years in a supervisory capacity. Or the candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree with 18 credits in the above listed areas of concentration and 5 years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least 4 years in a supervisory capacity. The candidate should bring to this position maturity, responsibility, and a sincere interest in working with people. Have very strong interpersonal and organization skills. The candidate should have the ability to help supervise both assistants as well as volunteers. Possess a general knowledge and understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission. The candidate should have knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.
Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up to date knowledge and skills in technology. Models and teaches the Y's values. Builds relationships to create small communities. Provides others with framework for making decisions.
